Onboarding at MAIWP–PICOM: Building Digital Confidence Across Dialysis Centers

by | Feb 9, 2026 | Case Studies

In late January 2026, the RenalWorks team completed a 3-day onsite RenalGenie onboarding at MAIWP–PICOMS (Batu Muda), marking an important milestone in our collaboration with MAIWP–PICOMS dialysis centres.

Conducted from 28 to 30 January 2026, the onboarding brought together clinical teams, operational staff, and leadership representatives with a shared goal: to build confidence, alignment, and readiness as MAIWP–PICOMS transitions toward a more integrated digital workflow for dialysis operations.

This onboarding also sets the foundation for upcoming implementations across additional MAIWP–PICOMS centers in Putrajaya, Jalan Pahang, Cheras, and Labuan.

A Structured, Hands-On Approach to Dialysis System Onboarding

Day 1: Clinical Workflows and Real-World Practice

The first day focused on RenalGenie’s Clinical Modules, covering the full patient journey — from registration through to daily haemodialysis treatment data entry.

Rather than limiting training to demonstrations, the session quickly moved into hands-on practice. Nurses began entering real treatment data on both WDS (Weight Data Service) and RenalGenie, with many accessing the system directly via their mobile phones during later shifts. This practical exposure allowed teams to experience how RenalGenie fits naturally into day-to-day dialysis workflows.

What stood out was the level of engagement. The nurses were attentive, asked thoughtful questions, and actively explored how the system could support their clinical responsibilities.

Day 2: Billing and Inventory — Strengthening Operational Accuracy

On the second day, training shifted toward Billing and Inventory modules, two critical components of sustainable dialysis center operations.

For billing, teams began configuring customers and patient payment plans, ensuring a clear understanding of how daily treatment orders flow through to financial records. This step is essential for reducing errors, improving transparency, and supporting accurate reporting.

Inventory training focused on stock verification and adjustment, with teams cross-checking system balances against actual stock levels. This process helps ensure consumables, medications, and supplies are accurately tracked — a key requirement for efficient dialysis center management.

Meanwhile, the clinical team continued actively updating treatment data, reinforcing continuity across clinical and operational workflows.

Day 3: Refinement, Confidence, and Change Conversations

The final day brought everything together. Teams refined workflows, clarified outstanding questions, and strengthened confidence across all modules.

One of the most valuable aspects of Day 3 was the open discussion around transitioning from paper-based charts to digital documentation. Change in healthcare is rarely instantaneous. Acknowledging existing habits and discussing them openly is a healthy and necessary part of successful digital adoption.

These conversations reflected ownership rather than resistance — a strong indicator of long-term success.

Leadership Presence Matters in Digital Transformation

Throughout the onboarding, members of higher management, including the Director of Dialysis, joined portions of the training sessions. While not present for the full duration, their participation sent a clear message of leadership support and organizational commitment.

Digital transformation in dialysis centers works best when leadership walks alongside clinical teams. Visible support helps create alignment, confidence, and shared responsibility — all essential elements when introducing new systems into complex healthcare environments.

We hope to see more leaders continue to step forward, engage with their teams, and support change from the ground up.

Preparing for Multi-Centre Rollout Across MAIWP–PICOMS

With Batu Muda successfully onboarded, RenalWorks is now preparing for the next phase of implementation across additional MAIWP–PICOMS dialysis centers:

  • Putrajaya
  • Jalan Pahang
  • Cheras
  • Labuan

Each center brings its own operational nuances, team dynamics, and patient needs. Our onboarding approach is designed to respect these differences while maintaining consistency, safety, and data integrity across the network.

More Than Software: A Partnership in Dialysis Care

At RenalWorks, onboarding is not treated as a one-time event. It is the beginning of a partnership — one that prioritizes people, workflows, and patient care as much as technology.

The MAIWP–PICOMS onboarding reminded us that successful dialysis software implementation depends on trust, collaboration, and shared purpose. When clinical teams feel supported, when leadership is engaged, and when systems are designed to reflect real-world practice, meaningful transformation becomes possible.

We look forward to continuing this journey with MAIWP–PICOMS as we move into the next onboarding phases.
